Sampling the Christmas Cheer with Brandy Alexanders.

Aug 26…
New crop of oranges in the store. Sudden high temperatures turn the skins green, sometimes overnight. They are still orange inside and really sweet.
Aug 24…
Our solar panels are finally hooked up and we have a fun little app to monitor the usage. Looking forward to seeing the savings on our electic bill.
Aug 23…
The temperature in the house gets so hot during the day that we had to keep our baking chocolate in the wine cooler so it wouldn’t melt.
Aug 20…
Tried something new… Grilled Shishito Peppers with Garlic Aioli Dip. So good! Check out the second photo to see how it happened!

We had some company outside our window tonight – A little gecko chasing the moths. We thought it was really cool to see the underside of him so clearly.
Aug 6…
Saturday Brunch! Grilled salmon, eggs and side salad.
July 28…
Solar panels being installed on our roof! Perfect timing as we now need to run the AC more often to cool our place down. With solar power, our monthly electric bill will no longer increase during these summer months, and during the rest of the year, we will save money.
July 11…
Lorne headed out of town for a week, to spend some time with his co-workers in Ann Arbor, MI. It has been two years since he was last there, so it was great for him to be able to catch up with everyone in person.
July 3…
We decided to add some interlocking deck tiles to our patio, to make the conversation area a little more cozy. The tiles are of a composite material, so they should hold up to the elements nicely.
June 30…
Really loving the deep colours of the sunsets lately.
June 29…
We are learning to cook with more of the easily sourced local ingredients like these squash blossoms. We chopped them up and added them to some sauteed zucchini, corn, and poblano peppers.
June 25…
We had our first rain of the year today as we caught the edge of Tropical Storm Celia as she passed by. Hurricane season is officially underway now.
June 15…
We finally hung up the mirror Lorne painted. This mirror came with our place and the frame was originally just whitewashed wood. After Lorne painted it black, it was the perfect place to attach our infinity-heart (see Snippet from May 22 below).
June 14…
We decided to make our own shelf liners for the guest bathroom. We used foamcore board and adhesive shelf paper we had leftover from the kitchen cabinets. They turned out great!
June 8…
We are really enjoying all the fresh fruits we can get here. This pitahaya (dragon fruit) is less than half the price we were paying back in Canada.
June 6…
Spotted on our way to the grocery store, a few turkey vultures sharing some road kill one of them found.
June 3…
We love having lunch on the patio each day.

Love is when you are crazy enough to turn the oven on to bake his favourite cake for his “Birthday Eve Dinner” (really, it’s a thing!) when the temperature inside the house is already over 34C (94F).
May 22…
Painting day! Lorne is masking the mirror so he can paint the frame. This mirror hangs on the outside of our ensuite bathroom door which faces into our bedroom. The second photo shows the mirror painted and the infinity heart we added to it.
May 21…
Our finished patio chair with the new cushions we made. They now match the chairs at our patio table (see second photo), that we covered and added cushioning to a few months ago.
May 20…
The local birds have started to come around to visit Lorne. The one in these photos comes around often now and each time he arrives, he gives a little chirp to let us know he is there to enjoy a bite to eat. We have named him “Lucas”.
May 19…
Sewing project day! We decided to make new seat cushions for our patio chairs. The cushions that came with the chairs were quite thin. Now we have something much more comfy.
May 15…
We are getting ready to hang some more pictures on the walls. Lorne’s new laser level is a huge help. We put up some paper as a placeholder to determine the correct size frame we need to order.
May 14…
Simple Saturday night dinner – French bread pizzas with beer on the patio.
Apr 23…
Found these for sale at Chedraui and had to take a photo: Coke from our homeland – BC Raspberry Coke and Quebec Maple Coke (don’t even know if they sell these in Canada!) The four pack is $199 pesos which is roughly $12CAD or $10USD.

Apr 8…
Some of our downstairs neighbours had some artificial lawns installed. No watering required!
Apr 3…
Salad for breakfast? A bit weird but why not.. LOL!!
Mar 21…
We made window shades for our office windows. The morning sun shines through the upper portion and makes it sometimes difficult to see our computer screens. These have helped enormously.
Mar 4…
Our first time trying our hand at making paella at home. It was so delicious, and we had leftover for days (and days and days!).
Mar 1…
Some adorable little critters we bought from a handicraft store in Todos Santos (about an hour north of Cabo San Lucas). Parts of the bodies are made from local seed pods.
Feb 27…
With the weather warming up a wee bit, we are back to eating breakfast on the patio more often.
Feb 26…
Stopped for lunch at Tacos Guss in San Jose Del Cabo. We shared four tacos, two sopas and two bottles of beer for a total cost of $25CAD / $19USD before tip. Everything was totally delicious.

Feb 23…
It was a little warmer this morning (21C / 70F) so we were able to enjoy breakfast on the patio before Lorne headed to work.
Feb 19…
Fresh almond croissants for breakfast today.
Feb 18…
Our power went out around 2pm on Friday afternoon. Beer and pretzels on the patio seemed like a perfect way to wait it out. We then progressed into having a cold plate for a light dinner, accompanied with some cocktails, of course! Power came back on just after 6pm.
Feb 12…
We decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day a few days early with a special dinner. Dinner included Stone Crab Claws with mustard dipping sauce, grilled rib-eye steak with asparagus and some Prosecco, which paired perfectly with everything.
Feb 6…
It was only 17C (62F) on the patio this morning so it was the perfect time to enjoy some Mexican hot chocolate.
Feb 5…
Out for a quick lunch at Carl’s Jr today. First time we had mints served to us at a fast food place.

Jan 17…
The first full moon of 2022.
Jan 16…
We found that the Tropic of Cancer runs right through the Baja Peninsula, so we took a drive out to find it. There was a monument at the location and an indicator showing the line of latitude.

Right after New Year, the stores in Mexico are filled with boxes and boxes (and boxes) of Rosca de Reyes (King’s Cake) for celebration of the Epiphany. The cakes are really delicious!
