Dec 18…
Christmas treats – Shortbread, White Chocolate Christmas Bark, and ‘not quite’ Nanaimo Bars. No Bird’s Custard Powder here, so we made them with only the yummy base and chocolate top. They still tasted amazing!

Dec 15…
Daytime temperatures can still be a little warm here, which apparently seemed to take the wind out of Frosty and Santa.

Dec 12…
Even the seagulls love hanging out at the beach!

Dec 11…
Another DIY project – installing a new ceiling fan in the guest room. How many safety and warning stickers can they put on one piece?!?

Dec 9…
Our neighbour’s dog enjoying a nap in the sun. We have nicknamed this dog “Buddy” and we enjoy watching what he is up to each morning.

Dec 6…
Hurricane season unfortunately brings termites so we needed to call the exterminator in. The only wooden part of our condo is the front door, so they were contained to one area and he was easily able to eradicated them.

Dec 4…
More DIY – Lorne building a new headboard that will be used in our guest room.

Nov 27…
Weekend DIY project – we added padded seats to a couple of our kitchen chairs to use with our new patio table. We also gave the chairs a couple of coatings of poly-urethane so they would hold up better outside. Nice and comfy now!

Nov 19…
We saw these bugs last fall and they have returned again this year. They look like a cross between a beetle and a cockroach and are about one inch long. They can fly – but mostly fly into walls and then land on their back and just lay there wiggling their legs. We call them Dumb Bugs!

Nov 14…
Our favourite Sunday brunch – Migas! Scrambled eggs and cheese mixed with crushed tortilla chips and topped with fresh tomato, diced onion, diced jalapeno and cilantro. Served in warm tortillas with crema and salsa on top.

Nov 7…
Our new patio set arrived today. We were so happy to re-configure the patio so we can have a table as well as a conversation area to relax in. We also added some greenery to our patio lights.

Nov 5…
Friday night Negroni’s on the patio!

Oct 29…
We had four cruise ships arrive in Cabo San Lucas Bay today. This brought approximately 10,000+ visitors to our little town leaving behind an estimated US$700,000 in revenue. A great boost for our local economy.

Oct 17…
A Praying Mantis was found hanging out on our front door. These insects are great for pest control as they help to keep the moths and mosquitoes to a minimum.

Oct 12…
Hurricane Pamela (Cat 1) was headed northwest quite some distance from us until she suddenly changed her mind and headed northeast. She passed by just far enough away from us to not cause any damage, but we did get some rain from the outer bands passing over us.

Oct 9…
Mushroom Fettuccini Alfredo with garlic bread and a bottle of chardonnay. It was the first time we added mushrooms to Lorne’s already famous Fettuccini Alfredo recipe and wondered why never did this before. So good!

Oct 5…
Early this morning a private fishing boat caught on fire as it headed out just around Land’s End. Thick black smoke could be seen for miles. The passengers and crew were all rescued, however the boat was a total loss.

Oct 2…
Enjoying a lazy Saturday afternoon with our favourite card game “Cabo Countdown” and partaking in some nibbles while we played.

Sept 26…
The photo on the left was taken
Sep 10 and the photo on the right was taken Sep 21, almost two weeks after Hurricane Olaf. Every time the sky blesses us with water you can truly see the beauty of the desert.

Sept 24…
Another power outage which happened right in the middle of cooking dinner. So happy we could still use the barbeque to finish cooking everything. Power came back on about three hours later.

Sept 18…
Used some paper placeholders to determine if the spacing was right before putting up our new artwork.

Sept 11…
The damage in our bathroom from Hurricane Olaf. Our roofing guy was here within a couple of days and fixed the leak on the roof plus repaired the damage inside. Now we should be good for the next storm.

Sept 3…
Our new custom made bedroom furniture arrived!

Aug 31…
After Hurricane Nora passed to the east, we were surprised to find our temperatures went down and we were able to enjoy some cooler mornings on the patio. The cooler weather didn’t last long but we enjoyed it for as long as we could.

August 30…
Advisory issued Friday indicated Tropical Storm Nora would upgrade to a Category 1 Hurricane by Saturday and was headed right for Los Cabos. Sunday morning her path moved slightly more east and just missed us as she continued up the Gulf of California. We are so very lucky!

August 28…
Birthday brunch – Shrimp & Grits. Lorne doesn’t care for grits so we subbed cheesy mashed potatoes, but Shrimp and Cheesy Mashed Potatoes just sounds weird! It was sooo good though…

August 26…
Lorne took a week off work so we could tackle all those little projects that had been put on hold. We used our “Post-it Note Organization Method” to spread the tasks throughout the week, which meant we were finished early enough each day to enjoy some patio time in the afternoons.

August 23…
While unpacking our kitchen, we started a box for all the “why did we bring this?” items. Turns out, it’s not just for kitchen stuff. While Lorne was unpacking his tools, this stud finder was deemed “nope, didn’t need this” and added to the box!

August 20…
Opened the front door to take out the garbage and found this little guy waiting to come in.

August 18…
Lorne’s International Soup: Mexican Water + Lee Kum Kee Chinese Sesame Oil + Lee Kum Kee Chinese Soya Sauce + Bibigo Korean Style Wontons + Sapporo Ichiban Japanese Ramen Noodles + Tương Ớt Vietnamese Sriracha Sauce. Yum!
August 12…
The painting of our long hallway and bedroom began this week.

August 11…
Apparently, after a big storm you will see swarms of moths everywhere. This was our patio just after sundown. Our poor local geckos could not keep up with clearing out this huge crowd.

August 9…
Tropical Storm Kevin passed by today. Even though he was 400km offshore, he made his presence known with lots of rain for a couple of days. It was weird to have rain, dark skies and temperatures still at 35C.

August 2…
Our dryer vent cover was jammed and needed to be replaced. It took three guys and three ladders (tied together with wire) to do the job.

August 1…
Finally found some time to play our favourite game – Cabo Countdown: The COVID-19 Extended Edition.

July 24…
We made Watermelon Agua Frescas today, and quickly found that they pair very nicely with flavoured vodkas or some tequila blanco. Cheers!

July 19…
Seen at a traffic light in downtown Cabo – apparently there is not enough room on a motorcycle for a car seat!

July 2…
First time calling for a water truck to fill our water. A broken water pipe in a new development east of us meant city water was not making it to our complex. Once fixed, it still took a while for the city to refill all the affected properties.

June 24…
Starting today, you cannot purchase alcohol after 6pm in any store in Los Cabos (and most of Mexico), due to increasing COVID cases.

June 20…
Father’s Day Dinner… BBQ steelhead, grilled asparagus, and orzotto, paired with a nice Chardonnay.

June 17…
Lorne noticed a Turkey Vulture hanging out in one of the under construction homes in our complex. They love it here as we still have some undeveloped spaces where they can scavenge for food.

June 5…
So you know how some fancy bars serve warmed nuts? In Mexico, it’s just called nuts… LOL!

June 1…
Our neighbours below us on the ground floor are preparing for hurricane season. Hurricane season runs from May 15 through to November 30.

May 25…
After our kitchen reno was done, we asked our contractor to replace the tri-fold door to our laundry. He made us this beautiful double sliding barn door. It’s completely handmade and absolutely perfect!

May 9…
Mother’s Day Dinner… Lemon linguini with grilled shrimp, along with a bottle of Casillero del Diablo Chardonnay from Chile.

May 2…
Every morning having breakfast on the patio, we feel like we are on vacation.

April 24…
First batch of homemade bagels in our Cabo kitchen! Been waiting six months for this…
Love it!!!
Looking forward to more snippets!
Thanks! Looking forward to sharing more.
These snippets are great! It’s so inspiring to see you guys assimilating so well and living your best life.
Love the pics. Keep em coming!

Coming up on one year here… still loving it!
I can’t believe I am just getting to this now! Love the snippets! And not just because I love the word “snippets.” Can’t wait to visit and see the renos first hand!
“Snippets” was Shari’s first idea as a name for this section. Then we debated a bunch of other name choices. The next closest runner-up was “Bits and Pieces”. But then we came back to “Snippets”. Glad you approve!
We are getting a lot closer to being guest-ready so people can come and sample our life here!
How did I miss this section? Is it part of the notification system? I love these snippets! What’s not to like about bugs, home improvements, food and drink and the wacky weather? I especially love the desert shots before and after the rain! And as well, the unsafe connecting of ladders. Clearly there is no Worksafe Mexico organization! Stay well and happy and well fed!
Hi Jen! There was a notification for the original post (Now For Something New) explaining the Snippets section, but after that, no real notification goes out when we post new items. To get around this, we usually put a reminder to check for new snippets at the bottom of each new post. Glad you like them! And you are so right… clearly there is no Worksafe Mexico… LOL!
