“Reflection is one of the most underused yet powerful tools for success.” – Richard Carlson
Early each January, we always make it a habit to pull out my planner so Lorne and I can go back through the pages to remember the events of the past year. We have found reflecting on the various entries to be a great way to close out that year and prepare us to move forward. For us, 2022 was mostly spent finishing up projects in our home but, more important, it was a year of reconnecting again with family, friends, and ourselves.
We have long given up setting any typical New Year’s Resolutions, however we do take the time after reviewing the past year to figure out what we would like to accomplish in the coming year, and usually choose a focus word to remind us of the direction we plan to go. Our focus word for 2023 is “Intentional”.
Now that we have established ourselves and settled into everyday life here, it’s time to “intentionally” take a closer look to see if we have everything set up properly and, of course, to see if there are ways to save some money. We used to do this every few years back in Canada. We would look over all the things we were paying for (like internet, cell phones etc) and see if we were getting the best bang for our buck or if there was a better plan available that we could switch to, with maybe a faster speed or more data at a lower cost. And we have found this has always turned out to be a very worthwhile exercise.
We are also planning to “intentionally” take some time off to explore more of our local area. We have been so busy with renovations and projects the past couple of years, there has been no time to do much exploration of our area. We want this year to be different. We want to make time to visit the many beautiful beaches around Los Cabos and enjoy more of the amazing local food. We also want to take a road trip up to La Paz, to explore the capital and largest city of Baja California Sur.
Like many, we find that the New Year is a great time to reflect on what we have accomplished and focus on what we want to achieve going forward. Of course, we always need to keep in mind that everything evolves, but if we keep moving forward we know that next year we will be able to look back and remember the events we will experience from this year, which I’m sure will put a smile on our faces.
