The Arrival

After what seemed to be an eternity with many, many bumps in the road to maneuver through, and many sleepless nights, we FINALLY closed on the purchase of our new condo in Cabo San Lucas on December 8, 2019. We flew down December 19th to take possession and start getting things set up.

After landing at the airport we picked up the rental car and drove down to Cabo San Lucas and up the hill to the Cabo del Mar development to our new condo that was waiting for us. We had already hired a property management company (thanks to Cristina, who we had met at the Ventanas rental) who would be able to help us take care of the place when we were not around, so she already had the keys and had already given the place a once over for a maintenance checkup and cleaning in anticipation of our arrival, and arranged to meet us at the condo to hand over the keys to us.

However, we quickly learned again that nothing ever goes as planned when in Mexico.

When we got to the Cabo del Mar security gate, we were denied entry as our names were not yet on the list as the new owners. We tried to explain in broken Spanish that we were the new owners and the security guards tried to explain in broken English that they cannot let us in, and we were all at a loss of what we can do. Thank God Cristina was there at our unit. We called her and she was able to act right away. She reached out to various people to try and figure out the problem and how she could fix it. Meanwhile Lorne and I were just sitting there waiting and waiting outside the gate. We could see our building, we could see our unit, we could see Cristina standing outside our door, but we were just stuck there.

Almost an hour later, someone arrived from the HOA and they were able to explain to security and confirm we were the new owners and finally we were allowed though the gate. The security guards apologized to us for holding us back, but in the end, we were grateful they do a good job at screening people as they arrive. We drove down to the parking lot to where Cristina was waiting, gave her the biggest hug for saving us and then walked up to the third floor to finally see our new condo that we had waited so very long for.

She introduced us to Angelina, who would now be managing our property and together they gave us a tour and explained maintenance found no issues, showed us how things work, where to find the hot water tank, what day the water gets filled up and when the guy will be coming to install the internet. They also presented us with a lovely bottle of bubbly as a “congratulations on your new condo” gift, which was so sweet of them.

After chatting a bit more and promising to contact them if we had any problems, we said our goodbyes, closed the door and looked at each other and simply said “Welcome Home”!
